hell. yeah!

i'll be at camp for the fifth and sixth graders speaking about a moldable heart. man, if you can get this into students early enough just think about where they'll be down the road.

tomorrow i'm talking about hell. yeah, i said it h - e - double hockey stick. i hope the middle schoolers are ready for this, cause it's coming at them tomorrow morning. but really, what is hell? so often we focus on the fire and pain, which is all well and good. but, tomorrow i'm focusing on hell as the opposite of heaven - a place void of God's presence. man, to be separated from the love of God forever is the worst thing possible...

Aug 3rd will be a lonely day for our building out here on Rt. 39 in Dover. The rumors are confirmed...we're shutting down that Sunday. Instead of coming to church - we're being the church. i'm pretty pumped about it all. dave and i are taking the hsmmers out to the dover schools and doing some yard work that morning, then having pizza. yum.

the aussies have left holmes county.

last week two of my friends from australia came to holmes county to "have a look" around. we had a good time together. we went to two indians games, cedar point, eidelweiss, and walnut creek cheese. seriously, what more could you ask for out of ohio? really...

i didn't have the heart to tell craig we don't wear these anymore...

descriptive or prescriptive?

this past week i was in florida with our students at big stuf camp. we had an awesome time on the beach, going to sessions, and just hanging out. life changing really...

the sessions were amazing. the speakers were great, but my favorite part was the worship. it rocked. the guys from north point did an awesome job. i love singing, but it was cool to pause and just watch high schoolers praise jesus. awesome.

lately i have been thinking about singing at church. honestly, sometimes i have a hard time saying some of the words that are in songs we sing. for example, how can i sing songs that say "you have my whole heart" or "i live for you alone" or "everyday it's you i live for"

i struggle with this, so i was thinking about it this past week...

are the lyrics we sing descriptive or prescriptive? are the songs that we sing describing the condition or our heart at that moment - or are the lyrics a prescriptive goal?

thoughts?
